The famous and adventure seeking goat Billy Whiskers, so loving brought to life by Frances Trego Montgomery in 1902 (though one cannot be sure she is the author of this story, as some of the later books in the series were written by other authors and this edition denotes none), continues his antics. This time, Billy, pining to see old friends, jumps aboard a train headed east, only to discover a stowaway--a little boy! Thus ensues Billy's trip with (and then without) Tiny Tim, his stay at Tim's uncle's farm for the summer (where he apprehends a thief who is hiding in an old abandoned mill near the edge of town), and his eventual retrieval by his owner and return home.
Written in typical turn-of-the-century style, the tale is heartwarming, the characters virtuous, and the plot gentle but enjoyable even for today's twenty-first century children.
