This is an impressive collection of essays on baseball in the early 1950s. It starts with an introduction on "Covering a Game" by Red Smith and then a series of short essays by Stan Musial, Robin Roberts, Roy Campanella, Whitey Lockman, Jackie Robinson, Al Rosen, Phil Rizzuto, Larry Doby, Jim Piersall, Ed Stanky and Larry Goetz entitled "Tips on Watching Baseball." These are followed by "A Concise History of Baseball" and essay on such topics as how clubs operate, how to score a game, how to read a box score, and how to figure averages. The book also provides 1954 team rosters, 1954 major league schedules, complete official 1953 major league records and official all-time major league records. There are also diagrams of seating arrangements and field dimensions of all 16 major league ballparks. The last hundred pages are entitled "Who's Who in Baseball" and includes statistics on the players of the time period.
