You Can Make Your Life Count is written from a depth and breadth of personal experiences that go back to the author's childhood years in Portland, Maine. As the son of a Methodist minister he had the opportunity to know and observe people from all walks of life. Very early in life he became aware of the struggle that many people have as they seek to survive as an individual. At Ohio Wesleyan University and later at the Union Theological Seminary in New York he began to sift through the ideas, new and old, that were to guide him in his effort to find meaning and purpose for his own life.
As he moved out into the parish ministry he realized that as he sought to help others he also had to deal with his own feelings of inadequacy. He knew that as he grew in years, he also had to grow spiritually. At each step along the way he questioned, he listened, he prayed. As he sought to help others, he too was helped. His faith deepened as he found direction from the experiences of Jesus.
The five parts of the book are organized to lead the reader from the difficult starting point of establishing a sense of direction through to the need to develop a positive and mind stretching attitude toward life.
